Command Unit
COMMAND UNIT STANDARDS
A. All Command Units to be numbered with 1-digit per your station number, unless
more than 1 Command Unit in your station, than use a 2-digit for the second unit.
Example: Command 2, Command 2-1, Command 3, Command 3-1, Command 4,
Command 4-1, Command 5, Command 5-1, Command 6, Command 6-1,
Command 7, Command 7-1, Command 8, Command 8-1.
B. The vehicle shall consist of a motorized piece of apparatus of minimum capacity to
carry the equipment listed below without being overloaded. The vehicle shall meet DOT specifications & shall not exceed chassis manufacturer's G.V.W. It shall be registered as an emergency vehicle & meet all codes of the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration or its successors.
C. It shall be equipped as follows.
Miscellaneous Equipment
One (1) 30-in minimum Halligan-type tool mounted in a bracket fastened to the apparatus.
One (1) large pair of bolt cutters mounted in a bracket fastened to the apparatus.
One (1) pair of binoculars.
One (1) 20-lb. minimum approved dry chemical portable fire extinguisher mounted in a bracket fastened to the apparatus.
One (1) small tool box with an assortment of tools.
SCBA
One (1) self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) complying with NFPA 1981, Standard on Open-Circuit Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus for Emergency Services, mounted in a bracket fastened to the apparatus or stored in containers supplied by the SCBA manufacturer.
One (1) spare SCBA cylinder, mounted in a bracket fastened to the apparatus or stored in a specially designed storage space.
EMS
One (1) first aid kit.
One (1) O2 kit.
One (1) blanket.
One (1) automatic external defibrillator (AED)
One (1) per each crewmember; Respirator and gloves as recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, for airborne pathogens.
One (1) Bio-Hazard Kit, consisting of:
a. Four (4) each surgical mask.
b. Four (4) each eye protection devices.
c. Four (4) protective gowns.
d. Two (2) red bio-waste bags.
e. Ten (10) plastic trash bags.
f. Twenty-four (24) paper towels.
g. Twenty-four (24) clean toweletts.
h. Two (2) cans of foam alcohol hand scrub.
Safety Equipment
Two (2) wheel chocks, mounted in readily accessible location, that together will hold the apparatus, when loaded to its GVWR or GCWR, on hard surface with a 10 percent grade with the transmission in neutral and the parking brake released.
One (1) traffic vest for each riding position. Each vest to comply with ANSI/ISEA 207, Standard for High-Visibility Public Vests, and have five-point breakaway feature that includes two the shoulders, two at the sides, and one at the front.
Five (5) fluorescent orange traffic cones not less than 28-in. in height, each equipped with 6-in. retro-reflective white band no more than 4-in. from the top of the cone, an additional 4-in. retro-reflective white band 2-in. below the 6-in. band.
Five (5) illuminated warning devices such as highway flares, unless the five (5) fluorescent orange traffic cones have illumination capabilities.
One (1) set, at least three (3), of emergency road triangles.
One (1) roll of fire-line tape.
Apparatus shall have warning signals in accordance with NFPA 1901 when the apparatus was ordered.
Apparatus shall have an audible back-up alarm.
Apparatus shall meet Federal DOT Standards for lighting, axle loads, tire size, frame capacities, height, width, etc.
All equipment shall be mounted, maintained and in good working order.
Radios and Reference Material
One (1) mobile two-way radio to meet county standards.
Two (2) portable radios to meet county standards.
One (1) cellular phone
One (1) Accountability Board.
One (1) current Kent County Map Book.
One (1) Map Book for all surrounding counties in which the company responds to an alarm.
One (1) Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG).
Suggested Optional Equipment
One (1) command board.
One (1) set of command vest.
One (1) mobile two-way or portable radio for Mutual Aid County Companies.
