Fire Boat

FIRE RESCUE BOAT STANDARDS

A. All Fire Rescue Boats to be numbered with 1-digit per your station number, unless more than 1 Fire Rescue Boat in your station, then use a 2-digit number for each additional unit.

Examples: Boat/Fire Boat 2, Boat/Fire Boat 3-1, Boat/Fire Boat 4,

Boat/Fire Boat 5-1, Boat/Fire Boat 6, Boat/Fire Boat 7-1,

Boat/Fire Boat 8.

B. Fire Rescue Boats shall consist of a power boat not exceeding the BIA rated capacity and the following specifications;

1. Minimum of 20-ft in length.

2. Minimum of 74-in. beam.

3. Maximum of 20-in. draft.

4. Minimum of 4 hour fuel capacity.

5. Minimum of 2,200-lb. load capacity. Load capacity shall be in excess of motor and fire pump weights.

C. The hull shall be manufactured with floatation and shall comply with all appropriate regulations of the U.S. Coast Guard and Maryland Marine Police.

D. It shall be equipped as follows;

· Fire Pump, Hose, Nozzles

1. 500 GPM minimum pump capacity.

2. Hard suction with strainer or thru-hull draft of appropriate size for capacity of pump.

3. 200-ft of 1 ½-in or 1 ¾-in. fire hose

4. 25-ft of 3-in or larger supply hose.

5. Fire hose shall be tested annually in accordance with NFPA 1962. Test results shall be given to the Standards Committee.

6. Two (2) 60 GPM minimum hand line nozzles.

7. One (1) pre-piped monitor nozzle.

8. One (1) 2 ½-in NST female X 2-1 ½-in NST male wye.

9. One (1) 1-in. Navy nozzle.

10. One (1) 1 ½-in. 60 GPM minimum foam educator.

11. Minimum of 5 gallons of AFFF-3% Foam

12. One (1) adjustable hydrant wrench.

13. Four (4) spanner wrenches.

14. One (1) 2 ½-in NST double male.

15. One (1) 2 ½-in. NST double female.

16. One (1) 2 ½-in. NST female X 1 ½-in. male reducer.

· Miscellaneous Equipment

1. Minimum of one (1) 15-lb. ABC portable fire extinguisher

2. One (1) bilge pump.

3. One (1) pair of 7 X 50 binoculars.

4. One (1) Dan forth type anchor with 100-ft. of 5/8-in. line.

5. Ground tackle for anchor.

6. One (1) boat hook or pike pole 8-ft long.

7. Four (4) 8-in. X 20-in. fenders.

8. One (1) marine compass.

9. Two (2) floodlights.

10. One (1) minimum 6-in. spot/search light.

11. Two (2) 6-ft. paddle.

12. One (1) grappling hook or drag bar or drag line system.

13. Two (2) waterproof hand lights.

14. One (1) pry bar.

15. One (1) pair of 24-in. bolt cutters.

16. One (1) 6-lb. flat head axe.

· SCBA

1. One (1) self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) complying with NFPA 1981,

Standard on Open-Circuit Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus for Emergency

Services, for each assigned crew member. SCBA may be carried on the tow

vehicle.

2. One (1) spare SCBA cylinder for each SCBA carried on the Fire Boat.

· Rope

1. One (1) 100-ft length of 9,000-lb. utility rope.

2. Four (4) 20-ft. of ½-in. mooring/utility lines.

3. One (1) ring buoy or rescue tube with line.

4. Four (4) marker buoys with anchor and line.

5. One (1) rescue throwing line bag with 75-ft. nylon line.

· EMS Equipment

1. One (1) first aid kit.

2. One (1) O2 kit.

3. One (1) full backboard or rescue sled.

· Safety Equipment

1. One Emergency tool kit.

2. One (1) flare kit.

3. Four (4) Type II adult Personal Floatation Devices.

4. Four (4) Type II child Personal Floatation Devices.

5. Four (4) Type III commercial grade Personal Floatation Devices for crew members.

6. One (1) red and amber emergency light.

· Radio and Reference Equipment

1. One (1) two-way radio to meet county standards.

2. One marine VHF radio; 12 channels and to include channels 16 and 22.

3. One (1) GPS.

4. One (1) depth finder/meter.

5. One (1) Waterway Navigation Chart Book.

6. One (1) electric PA/Siren or whistle.

· Suggested Optional Equipment

1. Two (2) Nomex marine firefighting suits.

2. One (1) pick head axe.

3. One (1) 10-ft. pike pole.

4. One (1) 20-lb. CO2 portable fire extinguisher.
