UTILITY VEHICLE STANDARDS

A. All Utility Vehicle to be numbered with 1-digit per your station number, unless more

than 1 Utility Vehicle in your station, than use a 2-digit for each additional unit.

Example: Utility 2, Utility 3-1, Utility 4, Utility 5-1, Utility 6, Utility 7-1, Utility 8.

B. The vehicle shall consist of a motorized piece of apparatus of minimum capacity to

carry the equipment listed below without being overloaded. The vehicle shall meet

DOT specifications & shall not exceed chassis manufacturer's G.V.W. It shall be registered as an emergency vehicle & meet all codes of the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration or its successors.

C. It shall be equipped as follows.

  • Miscellaneous Equipment

  1. One (1) approved dry chemical portable fire extinguisher with a minimum 80-B:C rating mounted in a bracket fastened to the apparatus.

  1. One (1) small tool box with assorted tools.

  • EMS Equipment

  1. One (1) first aid kit.

  • Safety Equipment

  1. Two (2) wheel chocks, mounted in a readily accessible location, that together will hold the apparatus, when loaded to its GVWR or GCWR, on hard surface with a 20 percent grade with the transmission in neutral and the parking brake released.

  1. One (1) traffic vest for each riding position. Each vest to comply with ANSI/ISEA 207, Standard for High-Visibility Public Vests, and have five-point breakaway feature that includes two at the shoulders, two at the sides, and one at the front.

  1. Five (5) illuminated warning devices such as highway flares.

  1. One (1) set, at least three (3), of emergency road triangles.

  1. One (1) roll of fire-line tape.

  1. Apparatus shall have warning signals in accordance with NFPA 1901 when the apparatus was ordered.

  1. Apparatus shall have an audible back-up alarm.

  1. Apparatus shall meet Federal DOT Standards for lighting, axle loads, tire size, frame capacities, height, width, etc.

  1. All equipment shall be mounted, maintained and in good working order at all times.

  • Radios and Reference Material

  1. One (1) two-way radio to meet county standards.

  1. Two (2) portable radios to meet county standards.

  1. One (1) current Kent County Map Book.

  1. One (1) Map Book for all surrounding counties in which the company responds to an alarm.

  1. One (1) Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG).
