I.                     Purpose

 

To establish a standard operating guideline for awarding a scholarship to a member of a Kent County Volunteer Fire/EMS/Rescue Company or Department.

 

II.                 Definition

 

A. S.O.G. – Standard Operating Guideline

 

B. S.O.P. – Standard Operating Procedure

 

C. EMR – Emergency Medical Responder

 

III.               Policy

 

A. It shall be the policy of the Kent County Chiefs Association and Kent County EMS Council to award a scholarship to a member of a Kent County Volunteer Fire/EMS/Rescue Company or Department in accordance with Kent County Chiefs’ Association S.O.G. 1-1-25.

 

IV.               Guidelines

 

A. The Kent County Chiefs Association and Kent County EMS Council will award one scholarship each of $1,000.00 a year.

 

B. Applicant must be nominated by a Kent County Volunteer Fire/EMS/Rescue Company or Department.

 

C. Nomination shall be made on the Kent County Chiefs Association/Kent County EMS Council nomination form.  See Attachment.

 

D. Nominee must be an active member of a Kent County Volunteer Fire/EMS/Rescue Company or Department and a graduating senior.

 

E. Nominee must have a grade point average of 2.5.

 

F.  Nominee must have successfully completed MFRI Firefighter I or be a Maryland EMR.

 

G. Each Company or Department that is nominating an individual for the scholarship shall submit nomination forms to the Kent County Chief Association and Kent County EMS Council by the April Chiefs Association meeting for consideration.

 

H. The Kent County Chiefs Association and Kent County EMS Council shall award the scholarship at the May Chiefs Association Meeting and the scholarship winners shall be invited to the meeting for presentation.

 

I.        The scholarship shall be paid to the awardee up upon the Chiefs Association and EMS Council receiving paid invoices for college expenses, to include books, room and board, etc.
